When I was at VS (1950 - 1953) I remember being shown the Mallory compass. It was held in a glass case in the Library (from memory).

On my visit in 2001 I asked around if anyone knew where the compass was. There were staff members who remembered having seen it.

It took a few weeks, but eventually a teacher said that it was down in his house.

Shortly aftewards it came up to school and I was able to take photos of it.

Unfortunately the leather case is missing, so we are unable to authenticate the compass. But it is unlikely that the compass is not the real McCoy.
