School is a Holy place where one learns a lot of good things especially in a boarding school like "Victorial School". I had joined in the early fifties and our Headmaster was Mr. Robert Martin Muir, where we were taught discipline, manners & above all, it made us rough & tough and one can do his judgement independently. I still say whatever I am today its only for this school. I still remember Robert Wilson was good at playing the mouth organ and everyday in the dormitory he played very good tunes and was a good boxer. One day he fought with me and though I was not a good boxer but to fist out anybody I was a great person and then I knocked him down and sat on his stomach and said "Do you give up". He said yes and then shook hands with me and said we are friends. Truly he become a good friend of mine. Our School Captain in Cricket, Football & Hockey was Richard Blake who loved me so much that whenever I received a parcel from my house, I would always offer him and he in return offered me pastries durn dum bullet etc. from our old Ghafoor who used to bring the tuck to the School. I remember once we were having a cricket match with Goethals and Chong was the fastest bowler in whole Darjeeling District in our School. When he bowled the bails flung very near to the boundary line and the game was stopped for a moment, for measuring the distance from the wickets to the boundary line. A great achievement for Victoria!!! I am sorry to state I visited recently the school on 26th Oct.’96 and to my utter disappointment the school is really in a shabby condition. The roof top of the buildings are not painted, windows panes are broken and the wood work is missing. Why is it so? Should I say the British have gone and so everything is finished.
