The Easter holidays began.

The School was due to be out of quarantine for a single case of mumps,
but unfortunately another case occurred.

The Easter holidays concluded and School re-started. Night study began
from this evening.

The 47th General Meeting of the Governing Body of Victoria and Dow Hill
Schools met at Victoria School. Dr Jenkins the D.P.I. presided.

The Inter-House cricket tournament commenced.

The Cadets left for a camp at Takdah.

A cricket match, Masters Vs boys was played, Masters won.

A number of boys went to a matinee performance at the Plaza Cinema.

The annual cricket match between Victoria and St Paul’s Darjeeling
was played and resulted in a draw.

The electric light in the study hall went out, necessitating the suspension
of study for an hour or two.

Mr Murray-Smith arrived and took over standard three in place of Mr Phillips,
whose place had been temporarily taken by Mrs Hockley, who, had taken
over standard two from the 1st April following on Mrs Nugents resignation.

The Inspector of European Schools, visited the School.
20/5/1944
A cricket match between the School eleven and the Senior Cambridge class
was played. The under 15 cricket eleven visited St Paul's, Darjeeling.

The School got a holiday for the Cambridge results.
Of the 13 candidates presented for the School Certificate Examination,
10 passed – 2 in grade I, 4 in grade II and 4 in grade III. In the
Junior Cambridge Examination, 6 passed out of the 7 presented.

The School under 15 team played Goethals School in football on the grounds
of the latter.

The 1st eleven played St Joseph’s College in football on their ground.

The half yearly Examination began. Owing to shortage of paper the three
term examinations at the end of May, August and November had to be discontinued
from last year 1943.

The 1st eleven played St Joseph’s College, Darjeeling, on our ground.

The half yearly Examination concluded. In the evening the senior boys
went to a social at Dow Hill School.

There was a debate at Dow Hill between the representatives of Dow Hill
and Victoria. Victoria got the verdict.
15/7/1944
The senior boys went to the cinema, and the Middle and Junior boys went
to Dow Hill for a social.

The football season closed and the hockey season opened.

There was a “sunshine” holiday owing to the monsoons. Victoria
has adopted the practice of giving periodical “sunshine” holidays
as against the practice at Dow Hill of granting ten days July holidays.
During the night a severe storm did some damage to the dormitories. In
C & D dormitories the whole fan-light frame of one of the window was
blown out and a large number of panes of glass were broken.

There was a Pagal Gymkhana at Dow Hill from 4.30 to 6.30 p.m.

A social was held at Victoria for the Junior Boys and Girls of Victoria
and Dow Hill .

The senior boys went to St Helen’s for a concert.

The School eleven played Goethals School in hockey on our ground.

There was a whist drive at Victoria to which the girls from Dow Hill were
invited.

Brothers were allowed to Dow Hill to see their sisters.

There was a hockey match played at Goethals School between Victoria 1st

There was a cadet drill, and a scout meeting was also held.

The School got a holiday to celebrate the Liberation of Paris.

The senior boys were allowed to the cinema.

There was a hockey match on Victoria ground between Victoria and Goethals
School in preparation for the Pliva Shield Tournament for which both Schools
have entered.

There was a cadet drill, and also a scout meeting.

The 1st eleven played the “District” on St Joseph’s
ground, Darjeeling in the Pliva Shield Tournament. Victoria won by two
goals to one.

There was a meeting of the whole staff to consider:
1. Arrangements for the 21 September.
2. to consider ways and means to raise money for the Red Cross as desired
by H.E. The Governor of Bengal.

The 1st eleven played the Police team on St Joseph’s ground, Darjeeling
in the Pliva Shield Tournament.
14/9/1944
The re-play in the semi-final of the Pliva Shield against the Police was
played in Darjeeling. Victoria won by 1 goal to nil.
16/9/1944
The final of the Pliva Shield Tournament was played against St Joseph’s.
After a hard game and several periods of extra time, St Joseph's won by
1 goal to nil.

There was a dress rehearsal of the Dramatic Entertainment.
21/9/1944
The Dramatic Entertainment in aid of the Red Cross. The seniors of both
Schools and a fair number of the public were present.

The Pujah Holidays commenced at 3 p.m.
26/9/1944
The boys attended a cinema performance at Kurseong.
27/9/1944
Junior boys were taken for a picnic and the seniors were allowed for a
forest walk.

There was a whist drive for seniors. Mr Murray-Smith took the cubs to
the scout camp for the day.

The Pujah Holidays concluded. Boys from VI Standard to Senior Cambridge
were allowed to the cinema.

The Electric lights failed in the study hall during night study.

Eighty senior boys attended Goethals Annual Sports. Victoria won the Inter-School
relay.

The Heats for the Sports Day were held.

Major Bannerman and his team addressed the School on recruitment to the
Indian Air Force and Indian Navy.

The Annual Sports took place, followed by a tea and Dance.

The Governing Body meeting of the two Schools was held at Dow Hill.

The Baker Shield Team (Shooting) had a practice on the rifle range.

The whole School attended Dow Hill Speech Day.

The fete in aid of the Red Cross was held. The proceeds combined with
the takings at the concert and Dramatic Performance amounting to Rs 2,200
(two thousand two hundred) was forwarded to the Governor's Red Cross Fund.
