FELTHAM at WAR |
The following information came from the Commonwealth War Graves Commission's web site and from a very good friend of mine who had helped me in this and other searches, JP Jegers, who lives in Belgium. Permission to use this information was obtained from the CWGC. |

Name: FELTHAM, MONTAGUE ROY Initials: M R Nationality: United Kingdom Rank: Aircraftman 1st Class Regiment: Royal Air Force Unit Text: 211 Sqdn. Age: 24 Date of Death: 02/07/1945 Service No: 1211363 Additional information: Son of William Charles and Florence Maude Feltham, of Winton, Bournemouth, Hampshire. Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead Grave/Memorial Reference: Column 454. Cemetery: SINGAPORE MEMORIAL I had always thought that I was the first Feltham in Borneo. Certainly the only Feltham serving in the RAF. In my case in 1963 and 1964 during "Confrontasi". But not so, while tracing Montague Roy Feltham who is mentioned on the CWGS web site, I found the following. Montague died as a POW of the Japanese in North Borneo. See this web site for the bare details. http://members.aardvark.net.au/clardo/the_far_east.html [It appears now appears not to be working 1 May 2008] I think that it may have been moved to.... http://users.cyberone.com.au/clardo/the_far_east.html and http://users.cyberone.com.au/clardo/honour_roll.html also at http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/abeckett/pow/powf.html Not only that, 211 Squadron went on in the war to be based at Bhatpara, in West Bengal, India. (Just north of Calcutta). I lived there from 1947 to 1954 with my parents, in a town nearby called Jagatdal. Our telephone exchange was "Bhatpara". I was not aware that there was or had been an airfield
at Bhatpara during the war and can't find anything out about it. |
